The Challenge

Maggie’s Farm was a pioneer of the early Colorado retail scene. As the market contracted in recent years, cash flow constraints forced the company to scale back their product selection. Director of Inventory, Nick Moore, and Purchasing Manager, Chloe Smith, made a lot of hard decisions.

“We used to be the one-stop shop—our customers could find any brand they needed in our stores. But the market in Colorado has seen tough times lately. Some products had been missing from our shelves for a while.”

In addition to the reduced upfront investment, managing accounts payable for so many different vendors was challenging.

“We had a mix of vendors requesting COD, digital and cash payments, plus various payment terms. Having so many different terms and payment methods, it got pretty messy. It was really hard to make sure everybody got paid on time while maintaining healthy cash flow.”

When the team learned about LeafLink’s Payment on Sell-Through (PoST), they saw an opportunity to simplify their payables and give their customers the selection they were looking for.

The Solution

Maggie’s Farm began testing PoST, and quickly realized it was a game changer.

PoST allows them to only pay for product as it sells to the end consumer, freeing up cash that would typically be tied up in unsold inventory. The result is reduced risk for the retailer and more cash in their pocket.

“For some of the slower-moving items, like topicals, we just couldn’t afford to invest so much upfront anymore. PoST allowed us to go back to those brands and start ordering again.”

It also automated their accounts payable, freeing up lots of time for Chloe on the accounting side.

“LeafLink helps automate the payments piece so I can focus on stocking great products. I get weekly emails summarizing my upcoming payments, and know they’ll all be sent on time.”

The Results

What’s Next?

Chloe and Nick have set out to bring all of their sellers onto PoST. At the time of writing (February 2025), they had already been able to re-stock products from 12 vendors, bringing exciting variety back to their shelves.
